Local Guide

Lake Austin Vs. Lake Travis Boat Rentals

Both lakes are great. Here's how to pick the right one for your day.

Pontoon boat cruising a Lake Austin canal lined with luxury waterfront homes
Lake Austin's shoreline is lined with some of Austin's most valuable waterfront real estate.

Lake Austin

Calmer water, closer to downtown (about 15 minutes), and lined with quiet coves, cliff jumps, and lakeside restaurants like Ski Shores and Hula Hut. It's the better pick for a relaxed family afternoon, a scenic sunset cruise, or a first-time boating group that wants an easy, low-stress day.

Lake Travis

Bigger, open water with more room for watersports and a livelier party-cove scene, but it's farther from downtown Austin and can get crowded on summer weekends. It suits groups specifically looking for a bigger-water, higher-energy day.

Who LakeTime Is Best For

LakeTime operates on Lake Austin, so if you want a private, captain-driven pontoon cruise close to downtown, with a scenic route past Mount Bonnell and the Pennybacker (360) Bridge, this is your lake.
